Icons from Japan

One of Japan's most celebrated and prolific modern composers, Joe Hisaishi, goes hand in hand with the gorgeous films of Hayao Miyazaki and the famed Studio Ghibli. Hisaishi has composed the soundtrack for many of the revered studio's feature film animations, including My Neighbour Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service and Academy Award winner Spirited Away, among many others. Eugene Symphony presents a program of the music taken from these three animated classics!

Joe Hisaishi is a master of multiple genres including European classical, Japanese traditional, ambient electronic and minimalist music, yet brings them all together under a truly distinctive signature sound. It's this sound which underpins and helps to breathe even more life into the already-beautiful animated films of Studio Ghibli and its founding animator and filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki, creating ethereal worlds in movies which both adults and children find endless joy get lost in.
